The Banaue Rice Terraces, located in the town of Banaue in Ifugao Province, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its breathtaking landscapes and cultural significance. These terraces were carved by earlier generations of the indigenous Ifugao people using only hand tools more than 2,000 years ago. The Ifugao people designed and built the terraces to cultivate rice and other crops on the steep mountainsides of the Cordillera mountain range.

One of the interesting things about the Banaue Rice Terraces is that the walls of the terraces were constructed with stones and quarried earth, then carefully planted with different varieties of rice. The Ifugao people developed a complex irrigation system using gravity-fed canals and mountain streams to keep the rice paddies consistently moist throughout the growing season.

The terraces attract visitors from around the world to see the remarkable engineering feat and to learn about the culture of the Ifugao people. Visitors can take a guided tour, hike along the terraces or enjoy a car drive around them.

It is important to note that the Banaue Rice Terraces are still a functioning farm that is home to local farmers and their families. Visitors should be respectful of the environment and follow the posted rules and regulations. There are a few small villages at the base of the terraces where tourists can buy souvenirs or sample traditional Ifugao dishes.
