Yanbu is a city located on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia, about 350 kilometers north of Jeddah. It was historically an important center for trade and commerce due to its strategic location on the maritime trade route between the Far East and Europe. Today, it is a modern city with a burgeoning petrochemical industry, but it still retains its traditional charm and historic significance. One of the main attractions in Yanbu is the ancient city of Yanbu Al-Bahr, also known as Yanbu Old Town. It is a well-preserved example of a traditional Red Sea port city with narrow alleys, coral-stone buildings, and historic landmarks. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll through the old town, visit the market and local shops, and delve into the local culture. Some notable landmarks include the Ottoman-era Turkish Castle, the 16th-century Al-Faransa Mosque, and the Bander Al-Shamaliya Heritage Village. Another popular attraction in Yanbu is the Yanbu Lakes, a series of man-made lagoons that are home to numerous species of migratory birds. The lakes are a protected nature reserve and offer a tranquil escape from the bustle of the city. Visitors can take a boat tour of the lakes, go birdwatching, or simply enjoy a picnic by the water. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, Yanbu has plenty of options as well. The city has a long coastline with pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. There are also several parks and green spaces within the city limits, including the Yanbu Fisherman's Park which is a popular spot for picnics and family gatherings.
